From this height, she could see over the battlements to the pale glimmer of Chantrie's ruins on the river's far bank.
Jame's narration, Seeker's Mask, "Part I", VI

Chantrie is a ruined Bashtiri fortress that faces Gothregor across the River Silver in the Riverland. There are many ruined keeps in the Riverlands (one across from Omiroth, one across from Falkirr, one across from Tentir, just name a few) and Chantrie is unusual that it still has enough form to warrant it's own name. Torisen has at times thought about rebuilding Chantrie for the Knorth if he ever had enough Kendar to.[1]

In Dark of the Moon, the Randir forces camp at Chantrie before they match south for the Battle of the Cataracts.[2]

History[]

Chantrie was originally an ancient Bashtiri fortress, which like all the keeps, was itself built on the site of an even older Merikit hill fort.

  1. Dark of the Moon, "Chapter 6: The High Council" — "Torisen and his two thousand retainers rattled around in this huge fortress like dried peas in a helmet […] He could easily have fielded four times as many yondri-gon and filled Chantrie with men and women willing to rebuild it with their bare hands for half a promise of eventual acceptance among his regular troops. "
  2. Dark of the Moon, "Chapter 6: The High Council" — "Over the ruins of Chantrie, Gothregor's sister keep, flew the standard of Kenan, Lord Randir: a gauntleted fist grasping the sun. Kenan had brought nearly eight thousand five hundred troops to the gathering of the Host, and of those, watching from the overgrown wards and crumbling battlements, not one raised a cheer for the Highlord's homecoming."
